Light & socket installation across Edinburgh — fitted exactly where you need them

Minor electrical work — such as the replacement or installation of sockets and lights — is one of the most common jobs we carry out at CapitalVolt. Whether you need an extra socket behind the TV, a light switch moved to a more practical position, or an entire room re-lit with modern fittings, our skilled electricians are qualified, experienced and available to work in properties large and small across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Corstorphine, Cramond and Fife.
The lighting in your home is important both for safety and for aesthetics. A well-positioned light can make all the difference to the way a room looks — and if you’ve recently moved into a new property and found the lights or switches aren’t where you want them, there’s no reason to put up with it. From traditional light fixtures to LEDs and spotlighting, we can fit what you require and relocate anything that’s in the wrong place.
Today we need more electrical sockets than ever — for phones, laptops, gaming equipment, lamps, TVs, kitchen appliances and more. Life is easier when there are enough sockets around the home, and our qualified electricians can add, move or replace sockets in any room. If you have a socket that no longer works, we’ll replace it and test the cables to make sure everything is safe.

Frequently asked questions about lights & sockets

Everything you need to know before booking a light or socket installation in Edinburgh.

There’s no fixed limit — it depends on the capacity of the existing circuit and the layout of the room. In most cases we can add several double sockets to a room without needing a new circuit. If additional capacity is required, we’ll let you know at the quote stage and include it in the price.

In many cases, yes — especially in properties with stud walls or accessible ceiling voids. Where chasing is necessary, we keep disruption to a minimum and leave a neat finish ready for decoration. We’ll always discuss the routing with you before we start so there are no surprises.

Adding a socket or light to an existing circuit in a standard room doesn’t usually require certification. However, work in kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors — or the addition of a new circuit — must comply with BS 7671 and may require an Electrical Installation Certificate. We’ll advise you on exactly what applies to your job and handle any certification needed.

Yes — we regularly replace old round-pin and non-standard sockets with modern 13A square-pin fittings. Depending on the age and condition of the wiring behind the socket, we may recommend testing the circuit or replacing the cable at the same time. We’ll always give you an honest assessment before starting any work.

A single socket or light point typically takes around 1–2 hours including testing. Multiple points in the same room are quicker per point because the circuit access is already in place. We’ll give you a time estimate when we quote so you can plan your day.
